As in the article, before it was a bit headache to find a taxi in Qatar.
Before, the only official taxi was Karwa taxi, and since the number was limited, it was difficult to catch one, especially from places other than shopping malls and hotels.
There were some illegal taxis though.
But now, with the apps like UBER and Karwa, as mentioned in the article in the link, there are more choices and much much convenient, though not necessarily cheaper.
Karwa Taxi
The only official public taxi company in Qatar.
They can be found many in shopping malls and hotels, or running on the main roads, but not in the small streets.
You can call but recently they updated their system with new navigation system, and they can be called using smart phone Apps.
Karwa Taxi Apps
It is quite convenient, but there is additional fee of QAR 5.
Used it several times.
You pay when getting out.
UBER
This globally famous Apps is also widely available in Qatar.
Sometime they collaborate with event organizers for free rides to the events.
For first user, you can use this invite code [YULIONOBUE] for free ride under USD 20.
Other Apps
Two more Apps mentioned on the I Love Qatar article above, but I never used them.
Limousine Taxis
There are a lot of limousine taxi companies in the hotels and shopping malls, usually more expensive.
Not-registered Private Taxis
You can find also many private drivers offer their service in the shopping malls or on the streets.
The price should be agreed first before the ride.
